The RailGeoSystem covers everything ...

... from signals to tunnels.

Switzerland’s largest GIS

SBB has an incredibly complex infrastructure comprising 3,000 kilometres of rail network, 6,000 bridges and more than 150,000 signals – as well as many other items of infrastructure. Basler & Hofmann’s bespoke geographical information system (RailGeoSystem) makes it possible to manage this infrastructure efficiently.

Convenient data management

The RailGeoSystem covers SBB’s entire infrastructure including station buildings, overhead lines, points and all relevant data needed for managing and developing this infrastructure. By a click of the mouse SBB staff can display any section of the entire network on a screen and print it off. This makes it a lot easier to maintain and develop work on construction projects.

A networked system

The RailGeoSystem is not an isolated system but combines many other applications: It provides, for example, basic data for SAP maintenance planning and for mobile communications applications. Basler & Hofmann has many years of experience working with complex systems like this. The company even had a major input in developing the forerunner to the RailGeoSystem back in the 1990s.
