Bangalore Airport: Steady growth planned

Bangalore’s new international airport opened in May 2008. The airport recorded 8.7 million passengers in its first year of operation. This figure is set to rise to 50 million passengers. Basler & Hofmann produced a master plan for the provision of transport and infrastructure for this airport, which is undergoing constant expansion.

Bangalore is Southern India’s boom city and is regarded as the Silicon Valley of the subcontinent. Air travel to and from the city is also forecast to increase drastically.

Forward planning

The new airport comprises the airport facilities as well as an ‘Airport City’ which will provide jobs for over 100,000 people. Basler & Hofmann produced the masterplan for transport to and from the airport which is situated about 30 kilometres north of Bangalore’s city centre. This includes passenger, employee and visitor traffic as well as freight traffic. The team carried out a feasibility study to examine possibilities for a rail connection. Basler & Hofmann produced the strategy for servicing the entire area including the ‘Airport City’ as well as the airport’s future expansion.

Always on site

Basler & Hofmann is supporting the airport by providing its own office on site. The office is able to provide ongoing consulting, design and construction management services.
