Draughtsman in Civil Engineering
If anyone knows about track alignment, it’s Christian Peter. Whether standard gauge, narrow gauge, new lines or renovation work, underground railway stations or tram depots – as a qualified draughtsman in civil engineering, Christian Peter always finds ways to optimise track geometry, even when space is at a premium. He has been a member of the Basler & Hofmann Railways team since 2003 and manages rail projects from Appenzell to Geneva. As Christian Peter says: “Railways have been a constant in my life ever since I was a child”. Now he is responsible for keeping things rolling smoothly on the rail network.
What fascinates you about your work?
Being involved in planning a new infrastructure project right from the start, and then months or years later, depending on the size of the project, gliding along on the very same rail network – that fascinates me.
What do you find makes a project particularly enjoyable?
When, after all the highs and lows, everyone is happy with the team effort and what we have achieved at the end of a project.
