Thomas Bührer

Thomas Bührer studied Rural Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, specialising in hydraulic engineering, surveying and planning. He remained at the ETH Zurich after graduation as a research assistant, researching and teaching in urban drainage and photogrammetry. He then spent several years pursuing his second passion, orienteering, gaining extensive leadership skills as coach of the Swiss national team. Since 2010, he has been head of Hydraulic Engineering at Basler & Hofmann West, working as a project manager in Flood Protection and Water Revitalisation.

What is different about working at Basler & Hofmann?

I can gain insights into other complex engineering projects that go beyond hydraulic engineering. This exchange with other specialist areas makes working at Basler & Hofmann particularly fascinating.

What do you find makes a project particularly enjoyable?

I always enjoy two project phases in particular: working with my project team towards the best solution, step by step – and when the water flows through the finished structure for the first time.
