MSc ETH Civil Eng.
Head of market region Central Switzerland
Jürg Büchler has always found motivation in complex construction projects and leadership roles. The engineer started out in 1986 – newly armed with his degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich – as a project manager in an international planning office in the area of structural engineering and bridge construction. Following a spell in New York, where he worked on airport planning, he returned to Switzerland and took over as CEO of the Central Switzerland subsidiary of a major Swiss engineering firm. In 1997, he became partner and co-owner of PlüssMeyerPartner, a company that he integrated into the Basler & Hofmann Group in 2012. From 2019 to 2020, he was head of the market segment in Central Switzerland on the Executive Board with responsibility for the expansion of Basler & Hofmann in this region. At the end of 2020, he stood down from the Executive Board of Basler & Hofmann in order to have more time for project work. Since September 2020, he has also been a member of the Executive Board of Basler & Hofmann West in the Bern region.
I find the variety and diversity of my work extremely exciting. My role involves complex structural issues spanning a wide range of areas, together with organisation and leadership. This combination constantly creates new challenges that make sure my day-to-day work never becomes routine.
I would probably be a helicopter pilot. This profession – in a similar way to civil engineering – involves close interaction between humans and technology, and the pilot works in a small team with marshallers. Here, too, success depends greatly on each individual team member.
