Technical Director Structural Engineering

Ruedi Schefer

As Technical Director Structural Engineering, Ruedi Schefer has long-standing project management experience, first in steel construction and then in structural engineering. Ruedi Schefer was responsible, for example, for the implementation of the new Stockerhof building, the Müller Martini complex and the Swarovski premises. In addition, he also manages and coordinates engineering work in large-scale projects such as the Zurich West development complex and the new Coop distribution centre in Schafisheim. Ruedi Schefer, who studied Rural Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, joined Basler & Hofmann in 1983 following a three-year post as assistant to Professor Jörg Schneider at the Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK). From 1999 to 2001, he also worked as a part-time lecturer in Construction II and III.

What fascinates you about your work?

Every structure is a prototype. I value this versatility of the assignments and the opportunity to work in various, constantly changing teams.

What do you find makes a project particularly enjoyable?

A great project has a certain flow: everyone involved pulls together and helps one another, and everything falls into place. This is when the work is most enjoyable.
