Technical Director Structural Engineering

Roger Dietschweiler

As soon as he completed his degree in Civil Engineering at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil, Roger Dietschweiler knew that he wanted to work on bridge construction projects. He began his career at a Zurich engineering firm specialising in structural engineering and bridge construction, until his passion for bridges led him to England, where he completed a master’s degree in Bridge Engineering. Since 2011, Roger Dietschweiler has worked as a project manager for engineering structures with Basler & Hofmann. His project track record includes motorway bridges, a 100-year-old natural stone bridge and innovative stressed ribbon bridges for pedestrians. Roger Dietschweiler has been a leading expert in Structural Engineering and a member of the management team for the Structural Engineering and Industrial Buildings departments since 2019.

What do you find makes a project particularly enjoyable?

I like being involved in the early stages of a project when I have the chance to solve problems in a conceptual and holistic way. I also enjoy being there as the project enters its final phase so I can see how the concepts come together to form the finished article.

What other profession could you imagine yourself in – and why?

Something that involved working with my hands – a carpenter, for example. Turning ideas into actual physical objects yourself is fascinating. However, as crafts are not exactly my strong suit, civil engineering is the next best thing.
