Jens Schuster

“We do not plan buildings. We create spaces in which people feel comfortable.” – this is how Jens Schuster describes the core of his work. As an expert in structural physics, he is responsible for overseeing all issues pertaining to structural physics that might crop up in projects, from verification of thermal and moisture protection, to thermal simulations, to noise protection and room acoustics – preferably on challenging projects like research laboratories for the pharmaceutical industry, or the headquarters of renowned industrial companies. Alongside his responsibilities as project manager for structural physics issues, the qualified timber engineer and carpenter completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Acoustics in 2014. The expert joined Basler & Hofmann in 2017.

What fascinates you about your work?

It’s fascinating to experience and especially to be able to shape how the first few strokes on paper are transformed into a liveable space. I find it really exciting to translate the laws of physics into light, warmth and sound, and thus to contribute to the comfort and well-being of the end user.

What do you find makes a project particularly enjoyable?

When it succeeds, and the planning team and developer are able to celebrate the end of the warranty period.
