Lukas Dürr

Lukas Dürr is fascinated by construction and the natural world. Following his training as a plumber with a Swiss federal diploma of vocational education and training (EFZ) and after obtaining his baccalaureate, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. After completing his degree, he was drawn back to the construction sector. He initially spent some years working as an energy engineer, and then as an overall project manager in engineering at an engineering firm specialising in energy technology. He joined Basler & Hofmann West in 2018 as a project engineer in Energy. Since August 2020, he has worked as a project manager in Sustainable Building. At the same time, he is also obtaining his Master of Advanced Studies degree in Sustainable Building at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland. His specialist areas include integral building concepts, energy concepts, thermal simulations and strategies for sustainable construction practices in the redevelopment of existing buildings.

What fascinates you about your work?

Every construction project is unique. Sustainable projects require creative yet realistic concepts and approaches. Developing this within an interdisciplinary team and achieving the optimal balance between technology, people’s needs and the environment is highly interesting.

What other profession could you imagine yourself in – and why?

When I was at school, I dreamed of becoming a farmer. To this day, I find working with animals very exciting and fulfilling. I am convinced that we can only progress by working in harmony with nature – whether that’s agriculture or construction.
