Grossbach flood protection project in the canton of Schwyz

Project overview

As a result of severe flooding, the river Grossbach in the canton of Schwyz caused significant damage to the channel basin, to bridges and to residential and commercial properties. The body of water was restored and ecologically enhanced along a length of 1.7 kilometres. The measures included driftwood retention, rock-lined and regime channels, block ramps, river bank stabilisation, construction of new bridges and set-up of a new discharge measurement station. Thanks to open communication with all key players and the public, the project enjoyed a very high level of acceptance.
