Optimised tunnel through the Bözberg

To shift more goods from road to rail, the north-south Basel–Chiasso connection is being upscaled into a 4-metre corridor. This makes it possible to transport 4-metre-high semitrailers.

The largest subproject is the new construction of the Bözberg tunnel. The existing tunnel is being replaced with a double-track tunnel. Basler & Hofmann is responsible for the TBM construction project as well as for the interior lining of the rock section, and has developed a highly detailed, optimised profile. This significantly reduced the excavation and the amount of material required.
