Jessica Abt

MSc Geography

Project manager

For Jessica Abt, a graduate in Geography with specialisation in soil sciences and biogeochemistry, soil is so much more than just “dirt”. She is fascinated by all the hidden treasures underneath the earth's surface and by the information that can be learned from our soils. Jessica Abt joined Basler & Hofmann 2018 a year after she graduated. Since 2022 she has been working as a certified soil consultant for construction projects and as a project manager for soil protection. Her day-to-day duties include preparing basic soil assessments, planning projects such as soil improvements or terrain modifications, as well as supervising the implementation of such projects. She contributes to a range of different projects with her methodology expertise and detailed knowledge of soil science – from crop rotation compensation to flood prevention projects and rail/tram construction projects.

What fascinates you about your work?

No two days are the same. In my work, I really appreciate the variety, switching from physical work in the field to project-based planning work in the office and collaborative work on-site, with its focus on problem solving. My projects also enable me to work together with a wide range of different people from the public and private sectors.

What other profession could you imagine yourself in – and why?

Ceramist. I love working with my hands and creating beautiful and useful objects from a natural material. I love letting my creativity run free.
