Transportation planning

Ulrike Huwer has a doctorate in transportation planning and has been Director of Traffic and Mobility at Basler & Hofmann since 2004. The various stages of her career have taken her from Germany to London and then to Switzerland: she studied Regional and Environmental Planning at Kaiserslautern University of Technology, and was also involved in research and teaching there before completing her doctorate in transportation planning in 2002. This was followed by two years as a project manager at a consulting office for transport planning in London. Today she specialises in transportation concepts and street design for all user groups, as well as concepts and feasibility studies for public transport systems. Ulrike Huwer is also a technical expert at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil and a member of the committee of the Swiss Association of Transportation Engineers and Experts (SVI).

What fascinates you about your work?

The fact that I can help to shape public spaces with my projects, as streets and squares play a major part in determining the quality of life in our towns and cities. I find it rewarding to succeed in meeting all mobility requirements in this context, and to manage the resulting traffic in a way that is as compatible as possible with the needs of all concerned.

What is different about working at Basler & Hofmann?

A good team with a wide range of skills – one that functions extremely well together.
