Catharina Simmen is a passionate civil engineer. Fascinated by how bridges are built, she decided to study at ETH Zurich. She has been part of Basler & Hofmann since 2007. She manages a wide range of projects, from new bridge construction and renovation to structural designs for alpine photovoltaic systems. She places a particular focus on sustainability – not only in her project work, but also as a member of internal and international expert committees such as IABSE Task Group 6.6 ‘Carbon Footprint of Bridge and Infrastructure Construction Projects’. In 2025, she successfully completed the CAS Sustainable Infrastructures at the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland and Bern. Catharina Simmen is committed to innovative and environmentally friendly solutions in bridge construction, combining technical expertise with a clear vision for the future of the construction industry.

What fascinates you about your work?

I am fascinated by the diversity of the projects, which always present new challenges. It is also fulfilling to work on long-lasting infrastructure that will benefit society for years to come.
