Christian Doninger is a railway infrastructure specialist with a focus on track alignment, stations, and BIM in railway construction. After completing his studies in civil engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), he began his career at an engineering firm in Karlsruhe, where he progressed from project engineer to Head of the Railway Construction and BIM Department. He has worked on large-scale projects for DB Netz AG as well as tramway projects for the Karlsruhe transport authority (Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe)—ranging from feasibility studies to execution. He further deepened his expertise in digital planning by becoming a certified BIM professional through a CAS BIM program.

Christian Doninger joined Basler & Hofmann in 2024, and since 2026, he has been leading the Railway Engineering department at the Kriens location. His project portfolio includes the SBB Wankdorf Süd–Ostermundigen decoupling project, the SOB service center in Samstagern, and various station renovations as part of the SBB’s barrier-free expansion in accordance with the BehiG (Disabilities Equality Act).

What fascinates you about your work?

I am motivated by the ability to make a meaningful contribution to society through my work. In railway construction, many different trades and disciplines converge, requiring the collaborative development of viable, integrated solutions. I find the versatility and variety of the projects particularly exciting
