Jan Attinger
Project Manager for Structural Safety

Jan Attinger is a civil engineer and expert in earthquake safety and structural dynamics. After studying at ETH Zurich, specialising in construction and geotechnical engineering, and spending a semester abroad in Singapore, Jan joined Basler & Hofmann in 2019. Today, he is a project manager and contract group leader in the Structural Safety division. His focus is on the earthquake safety of a wide variety of structures – from commercial buildings to bridges and hospitals to industrial facilities. He has particular expertise in safety-related infrastructure such as nuclear facilities. In his projects, Jan analyses how structures behave during an earthquake and determines the actual performance of load-bearing structures. This often makes it possible to avoid costly reinforcement measures or implement them in a particularly lean manner. Jan is also at home in structural dynamics and impact effects such as rockfalls. In addition to his project work, he is involved in research and comparative projects on earthquake safety and regularly presents his findings at international conferences.
As an earthquake engineer, I try to understand what happens when the foundation of a structure suddenly moves back and forth. The physics behind it is just as fascinating as the creative development of reinforcement measures that make a structure earthquake-proof.
I find great satisfaction in creating real added value through creative ideas, sound expertise, teamwork and open dialogue with the client.
