Martin Wallimann

Martin Wallimann has been with Basler & Hofmann since graduating as a civil engineer from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in 2007. He manages projects in airport construction and also acts as a geotechnical expert for the Swiss federal railways (SBB). In the early years of his career, his focus was on geotechnical engineering, where he acquired extensive specialist knowledge in underground engineering, which he now applies in inspection mandates for the SBB. Interdisciplinary projects introduced him to the world of civil engineering, which, alongside complex flight operations, forms a central component of airport construction. This has been the main focus of his work for many years: at Zurich Airport, Martin has managed numerous civil engineering projects for runways, taxiways and airport aprons – from feasibility studies and preliminary designs through detailed planning and tendering to successful implementation whilst flight operations continued.

I am fascinated by being part of the creation of new infrastructure for our society, from the first sketch in the office to the finished structure on site, particularly in a unique environment such as an airport.
