Finalist for the AEC Excellence Awards 2018 – Office Building Extension eGHA

Basler & Hofmann’s Office Building Extension eGHA is the only Swiss project among the finalists of this year’s Architecture-Engineering-Construction (AEC) Excellence Awards. The competition’s winners will be revealed at Autodesk University Las Vegas on 13 November 2018. The awards celebrate projects from all over the world that have embraced digital planning and construction with connected BIM. They recognise pioneering achievements in the categories of infrastructure design, building design and construction.

Choosing the finalists was no easy task for the international jury – 256 project entries from 32 countries were submitted for this year’s AEC Excellence Awards. Prizes will be awarded for the areas of infrastructure design, building design and construction in the categories of small, medium and large projects. The Office Building Extension eGHA project entry is one of three building design finalists in the small project category (total project cost under USD 20 million).

Basler & Hofmann is trying out a consistent and, wherever possible, fully digitalised planning and construction process in this project for their own office building in Esslingen, in the canton of Zurich. The construction project was planned in one sole BIM model by all the stakeholders and disciplines involved. The result: continuous planning in real time instead of repeated coordination of models. The construction’s complete digital twin is available to be used for the management of the building or for potential renovations. Work began in May 2018 – from the shell of the building to the interior, all the construction has been carried out directly from the digital model that is accessible via a Tablet PC.

The annual AEC Excellence Awards were first introduced in 2012. Every year they honour outstanding projects that have implemented new technologies, especially BIM, in an innovative way.
