Expansion of the Esslingen office building: BIM2Field consultancy and BIM planning

Project overview

The canteen was enlarged at the company’s own office building in Esslingen and a new three-storey building was constructed in order to create new workplaces. We used the project to trial fully-digitised planning and construction processes. The aim was to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalisation for planning, construction and management/operation. The building structure was planned exclusively and simultaneously for all subsections in a single BIM model, i.e. in a single database. This approach goes a step beyond the creation and subsequent coordination of specialist planner models. Work on the construction site no longer used analogue construction plans, but was instead based on a digital 3D model that could be accessed by the site manager via a cloud platform, e.g. by means of a tablet. In addition, the digital data from the planning process is also used further down the line for operation of the site, thus guaranteeing efficient facility management for the future.
