Flood protection at Mehlbach, Engelberg

Project overview

During the storm in August 2005, the Mehlbach river in the region of Kilchbühl, municipality of Engelberg, caused major damage to buildings and infrastructure as a result of overbank sedimentation and flooding. With the construction of a sediment trap with a capacity of 4,000 m3 and the development of the channel as a stepped basin and rough bed channel, flood protection for the settlement in Kilchbühl has been improved. In addition to the water construction measures, the project also entailed the construction of a new development road to the sediment trap and the construction of three new bridges.
