Gotthard Base Tunnel: track

Project overview

As the world’s longest rail tunnel, the Gotthard Base Tunnel represents a planning challenge in many different disciplines. The core of the project comprises two 57-kilometre-long single-track tunnel tubes and the open sections of 3 kilometres in the north and 7 kilometres in the south. The track project encompasses ballasted track, slab track and points with drives, light signals and heating systems.
