Löwenstrasse railway station, Zurich: trough bridges

Project overview

When the subterranean Löwenstrasse railway station was being built, Passage Sihlquai was widened to 30 metres and Passage Gessnerallee was rebuilt. Trough bridges were used to create the railway crossing over the passages. The bridges were designed as U-shaped full cross-sections in loosely reinforced and prestressed concrete with maximum span widths of up to 18 metres. Rail operations continued during construction thanks to the use of temporary rail bridges.
