Rotwald tunnel

Project overview

The 385-metre-long Rotwald tunnel is one of two tunnels belonging to the Bazenheid bypass in the canton of St. Gallen, and was constructed on an open-cast basis, using mining techniques. The challenging geological and hydrological conditions (heterogeneous geology, granular soil, groundwater) and minimal cover at certain points called for a sophisticated construction method with auxiliary construction measures (pipe arch, soil injections, drainage) and groundwater culvert.
