Ulriken rail tunnel, Norway

Project overview

With a view to increasing capacity between Bergen and Oslo, the Norwegian National Rail Administration is to construct a second eight-kilometre-long tunnel alongside the existing tunnel between Årna and Fløen. Bids were invited for the project involving driving operations with tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and blasting. However, the decision was made in favour of TBMs. The opening of the tunnel is planned for 2019/2020.
