Christian Uhlig

Civil Engineering Graduate, TU
Head of Maintenance of Engineering Structures

Christian Uhlig is a civil engineer with a wide range of experience and a flair for practical solutions. After completing his studies in structural engineering and bridge construction at TU Dresden in 2013, with an internship at the Queensferry Crossing bridge construction site in Scotland, he began his career at Basler & Hofmann in 2015. Since then, he has worked on a variety of projects, including the construction and repair of bridges and pedestrian underpasses at railway stations, as well as building construction and alpine photovoltaic system construction projects. He is familiar with projects in all phases, from planning and project management to construction management. He has headed the division for the Maintenance of Engineering Structures since 2025. His areas of expertise include reinforced concrete and steel structures, bridge construction, and the repair of engineering structures. He always considers the big picture and what is feasible.

What fascinates you about your work?

Every project is unique, with its own structures, teams, and framework conditions. That's what makes the work exciting. I am particularly fascinated by how clear rules and regulations can be combined with good ideas and innovative approaches. This results in functional, effective solutions. The best thing about it is that we can actually see and touch the end result.

What other profession could you imagine and why?

I could well imagine working as a mountain guide. Firstly, I enjoy being out and about in alpine terrain. Secondly, because there are parallels with my current work: you have to plan under constantly changing conditions, weigh up risks, and make decisions based on the situation – always in the service of your customers. When a rope is involved, it's often a question of statics and dynamics.
